STATE OF THE TROUT: Patron appreciation and JHBC voting

Posted in Uncategorized

Salutations, Trout Nation, on this my country’s voting day!

There. I acknowledged it. Let us never speak of it again.

But speaking of voting (again), I’d like to turn your attention ever so briefly toward the Jealous Haters Book Club final voting round, which has been open for…what, a week? Two weeks? Doesn’t matter. Time is made up. Jeremy Bearimy.

Anyway, the voting has taken an interesting turn. There is currently a three-way tie, and every time I check for new votes, it will have still somehow evened itself out to a three-way tie. Since I never put a definite cap on when the voting was going to end, let’s say that it’ll be this Friday, and that if there’s still, somehow, a three-way tie, I’m going to eeny-meeny-miney this one. Or draw names out of a hat. If you haven’t voted, you can do so at this link.

Now, onto my favorite part of this post. THE APPRECIATION! LET ME APPRECIATE YOU!

Lots of wonderful people send me donations through Ko-fi and Patreon to keep me doing the weird shit I do on the internet, but my $5 and up patrons on Patreon (and this month, a Ko-fi supporter) get a special mention in a video every month. Super fun, right?!

Well, this month, it’s about funerals. YOU’RE ALL WELCOME.

This is a great time to remind everyone that The Boyfriend comes out next Tuesday, but Patreon patrons at any level can read the first three chapters right. now. Everyone else has to wait for a much smaller sneak peek on Friday. When I’ll also announce what book we’ll be hating on in 2019. Until then, keep smiling, keep shining, and cross your fingers that my country isn’t a fully fascist state by then.

Did you enjoy this post?

Trout Nation content is always free, but you can help keep things going by making a small donation via Ko-fi!

Or, consider becoming a Patreon patron!

Here for the first time because you’re in quarantine and someone on Reddit recommended my Fifty Shades of Grey recaps? Welcome! Consider checking out my own take on the Billionaire BDSM genre, The Boss. Find it on AmazonB&NSmashwords, iBooks, and Radish!

Hurray, six month hiatus on political ads, then things will ramp up for 2020 presidential election (please, for real though, wait until 2020, politicians!)!

  3. Ooooh, do we get to find out which three? Maybe those people who voted for the two also-rans could re-cast their vote for one of the three and see whether that tips the voting (although I can see that this would be both complicated and potentially open to abuse, unlike hats).

Actually, maybe I’ve misinterpreted that; maybe it’s not always the same three, which would make things even more complicated. Oh, well… whichever one it is, I’m really looking forward to it!

Yes, I think it’s not always the same three. Otherwise Jenny would have removed the also-rans and just done a new vote. Much more likely to break the tie in a meaningful way than to sit around hoping that someone who hasn’t voted yet is suddenly going to vote and in a way that will break the tie.

The impression I got was that it’s usually the same three. And I don’t really see any reason for Jenny to remove the also-ran and do a new vote when there’s no guarantee that the tie will actually last. And she did say that if it ends in a tie she’ll meenie-miney-moe it or draw names out of a hat, so a new vote was never an option.
And if someone who hasn’t voted yet does vote, then it’ll definitely be in a way that breaks the tie; I mean, if it is a tie then *any* vote will break it.

Honestly, as much as I want to you to skewer City of Bones and A Court of Thorns and Roses, I’m really hesitant for you too? Like, extremely hesitant.

Clare and Maas’ fans are rabid. They truly terrify me and Clare is enough of an attention ass that she probably turn this into a bullying campaign.

    • Damn right Maas’s legion of stans are freaking terrifying. At least her only issue is that she writes very cis/white/hetero problematic/toxic relationships with her very subpar writing. Clare is a whole other story, much like the author we do not name, both of whom have no issue using their fans as attack dogs. Ugh.

What are the titles in the 3 way tie? Can we change our vote? Do you want us to vote again to get the decision made? Why is a raven like a writing desk? Inquiring minds want to know.

At least it seems like the selection of JHBC books were all popular (err, maybe infamous is a better word) choices. I voted but I know that I’d be happy with any of them!

Hey guys, this is a bit off-topic, but I’ve gotten same great tips over here in the comment section, so I’ll give it a try. I’m a creative writer myself and I love Jenny’s blogs (especially JHBC) because I learn so much about the skill while reading it. It also gives me an excuse to read her blogs while I’m at work. Do you happen to know any more websites that are a great source for creative writers? I’m not just talking blogs that take down (or praise) other people’s work (though that is fun), but that provide great creative writing tips and talk about the craft in general. Thanks in advance!

One request I’d make about the JHBC: could the links page be updated to include all the “Handbook for Mortals” chapters?

    Thanks. 🙂
