What I Learned On My Blogcation

Posted in Uncategorized

Hey, that reminds me, did anyone else watch Tiny Toon Adventures: How I Spent My Summer Vacation when you were kids? IT’S ON FUCKING YOUTUBE. So, when I start going on and on about my renewed vigor for my work and the importance of a schedule and shit like that, be completely aware that every word is a lie, because I’m really just watching Tiny Toons and fucking around.

If you remember from a week ago (I know that in internet years, a week is a millenium), I took time off from the blog to get some writing done. And while I did get writing done (I finished the first draft of The Boss, so that’s something), I didn’t get nearly as much done as I do on weeks when I’m blogging according to my regular schedule. Let’s check out the stats:

Word count for the week beginning March 18: 10,001

Word cout for the week beginning March 25: 3987

WTF, how did that happen? The only explanation I can come up with is that the blog keeps me so busy that when I decide to take time off from that, I don’t know how to keep working. Like, removing that one thing from my day throws the entire system into utter chaos and I get nothing at all done. Isn’t that bizarre?

So, the blog is back. You can expect a Buffy recap tomorrow, and 50 Shades Freed recap later in the week. Roadhouse is still on hiatus until April 19th, so D-Rock and I can get our taxes done and detox from our Drunk of Thrones! project. During the month of April, I will also be finishing up the last half of Such Sweet Sorrow, which has a May 1 deadline, and after that I start work on The Girlfriend so that it can release as a complete ebook as close to the end of The Boss as possible. And the good news is, I’ll be able to get all this stuff done because I’ll be blogging, and that’s apparently the only thing that can keep me on track and motivated to do my actual work. So, thank you, Trout Nation, for being my unintentional accountability system.

Also, my tweep @MissJuuko sent me this suggestion for the emblem and flag of Trout Nation. When considered beside @MandiReiSerra’s literal Trout Fan, this is proof that you guys are absolutely terrifying and bizarre. Keep it up, guys!

  2. I'm imaging the flag embroidered on silk. All GoT style. The Tully's have a placid fish. Yours… misogynist-munching monster trout. Khal Trout, the fish that mass spawns the world.

Sorry, just watched the first episode of season three and I'm squeeing in my pants.

I used to watch that Tiny Toons movie all the time as a kid. 🙂 My best friend owned the VCD. I didn't think anyone else remembered it.

  5. I learned that I get more done when I have school and that once break rolls around (when I always intend to get my other projects out the way, namely writing) I end up having TV marathons and slacking off. For instance, I spent all of winter break (a three week vacation) watching MTV Teen Wolf rather than doing anything productive (like writing.) I don't know why it happens, but I'm guessing it's a sort of “A body in motion tends to stay in motion” kind of thing. Like once you gain that momentum in your work, you're more likely to keep up with your work. And once you lose it, you end up sitting on your ass watching shows about werewolves that play lacrosse.

  6. OHMYGOD THE TINY TOONS VACATION MOVIE!! My brother and I rented that every other week one summer. We must've watched it a dozen times. AND I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND IT SINCE.

    You just made my WEEK.

(Also, most everybody I meet? Has never heard of this movie. I swear I was beginning to think I'd imagined it. Sooo glad I'm not the only one with fond memories of it!)

  7. I still own this movie on VHS, and there are times at night I still get the opening song stuck in my head when I'm trying to sleep. My brother and I watched it over and over and over and over as kids. Awful habit. Now I'm tempted to go watch it on YouTube. Frightening.

  8. It's funny–in the time that you were away, I went from waiting for the Fifty Shades recaps and sort of skipping over the Buffy recaps to PRIMARILY craving more Buffy recaps. I'd never watched the show before, but your write-ups made me check it out on Netflix, and I was about halfway through season one before the hubby got hooked as well. Can't wait for more!

I agree, I'm the same way! Wayy more productive when I'm in school than when on break. It's a bit annoying actually.

  10. See Jenny, you need us just as much as we need you. The Trout Nation is a true socialist utopia. We rise as one. Only by providing us with delicious entertainment morsels will you be able to… Continue to provide us with delicious entertainment morsels.

  12. I loved the Tiny Toons movie as a kid. The whole, Buster and Babs in the Deliverance scenario and Plucky's quest to get to Happy World Land was hilarious. He just wanted to go on the Happy Go Pukey ride!

This made me laugh because this is totally how I am. When I have a million things going on, it's like I'm a working machine. Have all the time in the world? NOTHING IS GETTING DONE.
