The Boss is now available in paperback!

Posted in Uncategorized

I CANNOT BELIEVE IT’S ACTUALLY READY, GUYS.

But it’s here. The Boss is available in paperback. I got the first copy today. After agonizing over format (“Is this too hard to read? Is the print too big now? Why is there practically no spacing?! Why is there too much spacing? WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME I AM A GOOD PERSON?!”), it’s ready to go!

The only thing I’m not happy with is the price I have to offer it for. I’d wanted to price it at fifteen bucks, but I would have had to spend money per copy sold to do that. So, it’s coming off the line as a $20.00 USD purchase. I felt all guilty about that for a second, and then I was like, “Uh… this is actually just sitting around for free on the internet, so…” So, if you’re unhappy with the price of it, keep in mind that I am, as well, and I’m going to see what I can do to change that when it’s time for The Girlfriend to hit shelves. But also that you can still read it for free if you don’t want to shell out.

In the meantime, here’s the buy link for the paperback:

And then check out these amazing running shoes I received as a birthday present from a wonderful friend who wants to remain nameless to avoid the wrath of her husband, but who I think we pretty much all know who she is, right? Having only run barefoot – until that caught up with me in the form of an achilles tendon injury last year – I had never shopped for running shoes before. Cut to me running up and down an alley in 91 degree heat while a very earnest sales person watches me and considers whether the shoes are working for me or not. Pro-tip, the pair that fly off the moment you take a single step are just a tad too big.

Thanks, nameless cousin-friend! I can’t wait to go running! Oh shit, yes I can, because it’s like NINETY FUCKING DEGREES OUT.

I better just stay in and stroke the fuck out of this paperback I wrote, formatted, covered, and crafted without the help of a big six publisher SO NOW I FEEL LIKE A FUCKING GOD.

  3. Yeah! The Boss in paperback! I SO can’t wait for The Girlfriend. 🙂

Aren’t new running shoes fun? I’m a fitness instructor so I have to get a new pair of shoes every 8 months or so. SO incredibly fun.

Just wanted to say how much I loved The Boss. I want to shout from the roof-tops how much, but I’ll probably just do so on my FaceBook. Thanks, and you’re an incredible story-teller!!!!

  6. I will def. buy a paperback copy of The Boss whenever I’m not hemorrhaging money. (And don’t feel bad about the price; I had to price my book at 26.99 because it’s a 720-page monstrosity. It’s just the sad truth of printing costs.)

Nice shoes! Annnnd yeah, feel your pain re: heat. Sounds like the weather we’re having up here. I was sitting around sweating just by doing *nothing* at, like, 2 am today. Before the sun was up. Going to have to take 3 showers just to survive the day.

  7. Definitely intend to buy a print copy of The Boss when I have extra money i.e. when AC bills are not killing me. $20 isn’t cheap, but you DID share it with us for free first!

  8. The cost of POD is why I decided that I’m going to fund the printing myself and sell copies directly through Amazon. It’s crazy that you can price a book at $15 or more (for mine, it would be $14.53) and actually have to spend money for each copy sold if you sell for under that. For POD, after payment processing fees, $15 wouldn’t break even. I’d be spending about 30 cents per book sold. By printing them myself, I’ll be spending about $6.50 per copy by buying 100 at a time, and then can price at $15 and still make a profit after payment processing fees and have money to put into printing more copies. Upside is I can come out a head at a lower price, but the downside is needing to come up with what for me is a small fortune, and there’s no guarantee I’ll sell any copies.

It’s been in the 90s here with high humidity, so high it actually sprinkled yesterday despite clear skies. No, I’m not kidding. Ana and Christian wouldn’t be looking so cool in Washington this time of year. I know because I live here. It’s freaking miserable. Yesterday I got heat exhaustion, a step below stroke, and tomorrow I’m moving into a third floor apartment and am preparing excuses to get out of moving anything up.

If you want to go running, try to go at night when it’s a smidge cooler and the sun won’t be pounding down on you.

I am ready for The Girlfriend. Like now, already. I finished re-reading The Boss today and then proceeded to devour a 150 page shitty bodice ripper in desperation. It was like eating rice for dinner. It satisfied my hunger but I was not nourished. And I’ll probably be hungry again in an hour.

  11. I cheated when I did mine POD; shrunk the typeface to use less paper, cut the price in half. It’s a 110K tale, but my cost was less than $7. So, in case you feel like abusing yourself with more edits (all you have to do is just upload the new pdf, and boom, ready to go) you can shrinky-dink the font (I’m at 10pt, same as newspapers) and see how many pages that takes you down. If you’re already at that, then, well, I still think it’s worth $20+, because it’s a great story you’ve woven together.

Belated Happy Birthday! I finished reading “The Boss” and I just wanted to say that I loved it–except the ending–ARGH! Also read the first chapter of “The Girlfriend” and I can’t wait for it to come out in August to keep reading. I don’t usually read this genre of book, but this was so good, hoping there is more office intrigue. Sophie definitely took Ana’s “inner goddess” out to the backyard and beat the sh*t out of it.

Have you seen this pic of Orlando Bloom? Is this what it means when pants “hang that way?”
