Update on The Girlfriend and other blog stuff

Posted in Uncategorized

Hey there everybody! I know you’re all probably tired of this blog being one big, extended commercial for The Girlfriend, but I wanted to update everybody on what’s going on with the release. Because I didn’t quite understand the process over at Amazon, the Kindle version of the The Girlfriend released two days early. I thought it was going to take forty-eight hours to publish to Amazon, it really only took twelve. And actually, it took less than twelve. It takes forty-eight hours to publish to Amazon in other countries, that was the part I misunderstood.

Unfortunately, that means everyone who pre-ordered or who will be ordering over at Smashwords are now getting the book after everyone else. I put a note into customer service at Smashwords and I’m waiting to hear back to see if I can get it released before Tuesday.

This was exactly the situation I was trying to avoid by not going through the Kindle Select program, so I’m very sorry to everyone who didn’t get the book early. I promise, I’ll have this figured out better for Raptors of The Great Plains. If I hear back from Smashwords before tomorrow, you’ll hear about it on twitter. In the meantime, if you were planning to buy The Girlfriend from Amazon, you can find it here.

As for other blog stuff! I’m so happy to be working on the next BtVS recap, and that will be up tomorrow!

Which way of ordering gives you the bigger profit margin? Because, I can wait if it means more money in your pocket.

    • They’re basically the same. One is 70% and the other is 80%, so it’s literally a few tenths of a cent difference. Buy it wherever it’s easiest for you. 😀

If I don’t have a kindle, but I have an ipad, can I download the book using iBooks? Or would I be able to read the kindle version on an ipad? Please help, I want to support.

Is the smashwords one DRM free? Because if it is, I will wait for it based on my strict principles. But if it is not then GIVE ME THE GIRLFRIEND NOW RIGHT NOW I NEED IT OR I WILL DIE

Hey Heather, I had the same hang-up about DRM and found that Smashwords About page specifically notes DRM-free format! 🙂 happy reading!

  5. I have a headache from reading The Girlfriend all in one go. Powerfully written, hot as hell, made me cry a few times… it’s got everything. Wonderful book, Jenny. Can’t wait to read the final book!

    🙁

So I SWEAR I checked out shipping on the paperback version of The Boss on Bookpatch and it said free to Canada. Except now it doesn’t. When I go to order The Boss and The Girlfriend together, it doesn’t give me standard delivery options (only priority, express, etc), and wants to charge me a minimum of $37 to ship, which is more than the books combined. I hate to say it Jenny, but I just can’t justify that. And since I’m pretty much a book reader (i don’t own an ereader), I guess this is the end of the story for me for a while 🙁

    • I don’t blame you, I wouldn’t want to pay that in shipping, either.

    • If you purchase the ebook from Amazon, you can read it on your computer if you download Kindle for mac/pc (it’s a free program). I’m not big on reading books on my computer, but it’s better than nothing.

    • Holy crap, you’re right about the shipping to Canada. The lowest price I can get is $31, and the most expensive is $104! That’s mad! That costs more than the book itself. I really wanted a paperback but I can’t afford to spend that just on shipping. Did you know that you can buy it on PDF, though? That’s what I’m going to do now. 🙂

Yeah, I may do that. I really REALLY tend to hate reading books on my computer (maybe that’s strange coming from someone who read The Boss chapters religiously). It’s like a compulsion to automatically igore that option. And I loved the idea of getting the paperbacks. There’s just something about a physical copy.

On the other hand, I LOVED The Boss and want to keep reading. AND I want to support Jenny as an author, considering how much entertainment I’ve gotten from her blog posts and her writing.

I’m weighing the options. Pretty much deciding if I can get over paying for a computer file to finish the story. Which I probably will 😛

  7. Just finished The Girlfriend (not quite all in one sitting, but definitely within 24 hours). I need to buy new batteries now.

    Seriously fantastic book.

  8. So I downloaded this around midnight, read it until I passed out at 4am, and then I did absolutely nothing today until I finished it. I didn’t know that I would love it more than The Boss, but I do! It was so wonderful!

So, uh, no pressure or anything, but any idea when we’ll be graced with The Bride?

    • I was planning for summer of next year, but to be honest, the response to The Girlfriend has kind of overwhelmed me and it might be sooner, just because I feel a lot of weight and momentum right now, LOL.

      • You shouldn’t be surprised it has the response it does. It’s an amazing piece of work, and any praise and recognition you get for it is rightfully deserved. I can’t wait for the next two books!

@Jenny. I have question regarding the dress you describe as an “upside-down flower dripping with dew, with a plunging v-neck”. Is it a real dress you saw somewhere or something your imagination dreamed up? If it’s real I want to buy it, so please let me know lol.

    • That is a real dress! I wish I could remember where I saw it. It was literally just layers of chiffon, with beading along the bottom hem, and I was like, “That looks like a flower. Like a lily or something.” If I remember where I saw it, I’ll let you know.

I have been following you since someone on facebook linked to the 50shadesofworthlesstripe recaps. Thank you for saving me from having to read book 2 and 3. You surely took one for the team with those! Yesterday, I reinstated my Amazon “one click” just for “The Girlfriend”, and was not disappointed. I loved “The Boss” and was worried that the sequel would not measure up. Instead, you took Sophie and Neil’s relationship to a whole new level, both in their erotic lives, and with the crises they weathered. Thank you and much respect.

Of course The Girlfriend! Can’t wait to read it. 🙂

I finished The Girlfriend last night. There were so many things I loved about it, but can I just say how much I appreciated the depth and completeness of Sophie and Neil’s characters in particular?

They actually did things that made sense. All the time. I didn’t realize how rare it was to read a book – and ESPECIALLY a romance type of book – and basically never have to use suspension of disbelief until I read this.

Most erotic stories I’ve read have characters that are just checklists of “Things Considered Sexy” mushed into a vaguely person-shaped blob whose only purpose is to facilitate the sex-having. But you made Sophie and Neil so clear and so real. They came alive to me while reading. Thank you very much; this was an excellent book and I’ll recommend it to anybody who will listen.

Just finished The Girlfriend and good golly gosh! I loved it! First off, HOT and in no way repetitive (unlike a certain someone *ahem*). I enjoyed the roundness of the characters and really appreciated the research you did on cancer and a patient’s experiences as they navigate that tumultuous and terrifying time. As a med-school hopeful, I was so irritated at Dr. Grant for his lack of people skills! Argle bargle, it’s that coldness that makes people afraid to go to and communicate openly with their MDs. Sadly, I don’t think your depiction is far off from many peoples’ experiences. So, yay! (?…we shoudl fix MDs) Anyhow, an absolutely sequel to The Boss and I look forward to The Bride!

I just finished The Girlfriend and I’m sitting here blown away. For various reasons I’m not going into, I’ve been clinging to Sophie and Neil like a lifeline this week. It was exactly what I needed, and you can’t possibly know how much it has helped.
