Announcement I have been sitting on for what seems like FOREVER.

Posted in Uncategorized

Hey y’all! I am so excited to tell you something, and I’ve wanted to tell you ever since I got the job, but I couldn’t.

I, like Sophie Scaife, am now writing about beauty stuff. Life imitates art, and all that, so if you see any kinky billionaires around, send them my way. But seriously, I’m so pleased to be writing a monthly feature called “Jenny Tries” for Collective310.

What is “Jenny Tries” about? I find random DIY beauty tips and recipes on the internet, try them out, and report on the results. This month, it’s a blackhead removing mask.

The hope is that readers will come up with their own suggestions as to what I should try next. Expect to see photos of my face slathered in gross concoctions. I suppose you should also expect to see photos of the resultant breakouts caused by sticking mayonnaise on your face or whatever.

Anyway, that’s my news! I’m super excited, the first feature was a ton of fun, and I look forward to the next!

Up next for this here blog, expect a 50 Shades recap by the end of the week!

  1. Congrats on the new venture! I hope you get to try lots of cool stuff.

It still startles me to see a name eerily similar to my character in an author friend’s book (Sophia rather than Sophie) paired with my last name in The Girlfriend and all the subsequent books!

  3. I winced when I saw the mask. Citrus (of any kind—lemon, lime, orange, etc) is one of the most horrible things you can put on your skin. The acidity burns, like you said, and causes damage to your skin…as well as being completely ineffective at easing your skin concerns (absolutely regardless of what they may be—acne, aging, etc). I don’t envy you with trying out these home remedies; almost none of them are effective! But I will morbidly follow along to witness the results…good luck. 😛

My daughter had this weird patch of what looked like eczema on her face. We started racking our brains trying to figure out if it was a reaction to something. Eventually, she admitted that she put straight lemon juice on her face. Um, yeah, child, you put acid on your face and you are wondering why it burns.

Congratulations and bravo! I don’t use make up of any kind not even lip gloss. The only things I put on my skin is Aveeno products. I’m super excited for you.

your new job sounds fun! it’s too bad the first one didn’t work out. i’ve had success with many of the recipes/techniques at crunchybetty.com and lisaliseblog.com. some of them require ingredients beyond the pantry staples, but there are also a lot of fun ones that don’t.

crunchy betty has an egg white recipe without the lemon and with a fix for the peeling issue, at #8:

a fun way to class up soap bar bits:

Congratulations on your new gig! I never try DIY beauty stuff, but I love reading about what happens when others do. I will be adding this to my must read list.

  9. That was hillarious XD I’ve tried plenty of DIY things on the Internet as well with varying results. One blackhead mask that really does work is to mix 1 tbsp unflavored gelatin and 1 1/2 – 2 tbsp milk, microwave for 15 seconds. Warning: this mixture WILL NOT smell good. Put a thin layer of the mixture on wherever you have blackheads anyway. Leave for 15 minutes or until dry, then peel off pieces. Warning: this probably will hurt since this mask also conveniently removes facial hair XD. But when you pull off the mask, you’ll notice little lumps of grime and oil all over it. Those used to be in your pores. Yep. Stare at in horror and repeat XD. At the end your pores will be squeaky clean and your face will be hairless too lol. I do one of these every couple months when I’m feeling brave/have an blackout breakout lol.

    Cool!

One home treatment I’ve tried with some luck is using baking soda and lemon juice (can’t remember the exact amounts, but I found it on pinterest) for tooth whitening. I’d be curious to find out if other people have luck too, or if it produces long term results.
