  1. Awesome article! Professional and informative, topped off with witty Jenny-ness. 🙂 Also cool as fuck idea, I don’t wear makeup often but will share this with my friends that do!

  2. I’d recommend Viva brand towels. They’re not cheap, but they’re great quality, and are incredibly soft. They seriously are as “cloth-like” as their commercials claim.

I’ll definitely be giving these wipes a try. 🙂

This makes me want to try the homemade baby wipes I read about but never bothered to make. Thanks, Jenny!

Will definitely be using that. One other thing you could maybe do… show us how you do your make up… your eyeshadow is gorgeous.

awesome! I’m awful at doing mine, i tend to go with bare minimum because otherwise i look like when Homer Simpson shot Marge in the face with his make up gun set to ‘whore’.

Excellent article, and a great idea! Sprinkled with just enough humor to keep it fun. I don’t wear makeup very often, but when I know I have an event coming up, I can try making these in advance. They seem like they would be a lot gentler on my skin than my store-bought remover.

I had a little trouble with your results picture, because I was too busy being distracted by how STUNNINGLY GORGEOUS you are! Your eyes are incredible. I look forward to future articles.

  6. The DIY types’ obsession with essential oils needs to die in a fire. Sure, one could say essential oils are natural. A lot of them are quite naturally IRRITATING or TOXIC. And they’re hell on people with asthma and/or hypersensitivity to smells.

I once had a woman at a street fair badger me to try her homemade face cream. I told her I didn’t want to risk my skin reacting to unfamiliar chemicals. She said the cream was “all natural” so it didn’t have any chemicals in it. I laughed in her face because, I sure as fuck wasn’t going to trust a face cream cooked up by someone who didn’t understand that “natural” ingredients are still made of chemicals.

So good choice leaving those out of your DIY wipes!

I use pure coconut oil (any oil, really, but coconut smells yummy and feels great on my skin) as a make-up remover and use cotton pads to wipe it off. Similar to the wipes with no risk of mold. Works great!

Jenny, have you stopped doing FSOG recaps and I missed you saying so? You used to write one every couple of days, then every week and now it’s been like a month. Clearly, I wait in anticipation, lol!!
I know they take a lot of time and that book is a pain in the ass, but have you given up?
On behalf of everyone, please stick it out!!!

    • She (understandably) has to drink her weight in booze just to get through those recaps, so she’s probably just slowing down for her heath. 😉 I wouldn’t worry; a fresh batch of “crapola” is surely on the way.

    • Agreed! I miss them. I know they aren’t Jen’s favorite thing to write, but I love reading them and hope she will stick the series out for us 🙂 They have gotten me through some really rough days actually. They instantly lift my mood.

  9. After seeing your post, I’d be sorely tempted to try these, but like you, I’m afraid of mold (even more so since I live in Hawaii and it’s incredibly hot and humid here, even in the fall). So far the only thing that’ll take off my makeup (and given the climate I live in + my tendency toward oily skin, I have to use industrial strength eye makeup) is Albiline. At least it’s really inexpensive?

If I did try these, I’d keep them in the fridge. While I’m not crazy about plopping a cold wipe on my face, it beats mold.

  10. I’ve only worn makeup a handful of times and I feel like a cavewoman for asking, but does it not come off when you just wash your face normally with water and soap?

Some make-ups, like mascaras, that are designed to be waterproof can be tougher to get off with regular soap and water. The coconut oil, which in addition to being good for your skin, helps to break down the product and gets it off easier. Personally I don’t wear a lot of make-up and regular soap and water is enough for me to get it off.

  12. Wow, you have gorgeous eyes! That colour… I never noticed before. (Well, then again, the facepalm/righteous outrage pictures in your recaps sort of have a differet focus…) Anyway: beautiful you.
