State of The Trout: Two Quick Things!

Posted in Uncategorized

Hey everybody! I’m buried under deadlines! WHEE!

A Big Damn Buffy Rewatch Post is coming soon, but in the meantime, here are two important things to stick in your head:

  • The Boss is now free in all available formats at Smashwords. It should be up and free at retailer soon, but you can download it in whichever format you need here.
  • The #EatMe Addams Family Values watch-a-long party starts at 3pm EST on Friday, November 29! Why the middle of the day? So our friends in Europe can play along! You think this is rough, wait until we do one for New Zealand.

Catch you on the flipside!

Did you enjoy this post?

Trout Nation content is always free, but you can help keep things going by making a small donation via Ko-fi!

  1. Might as well ask here. Does anyone in Troutnation have advise for erotica (series would be nice) that deals with intro to BDSM? Much as I love The Boss, seems like ALL of the other work I’m finding is billionaire w/ unexperienced (in BDSM or sex in general) girl. I kind of like the idea of reading about a developing relationship where they learn about their kinks together, instead of one teaching the other, but maybe that is just way too vanilla/normal life to exist in literature :).

    • I haven’t read any where they explore together. It’s an interesting thing to think about as a writer, though. I know that my own intro to kink was always with a more experienced partner (though I’ve experimented in BDSM, it’s not my thing). However, because it’s not my thing, I always worry that I will have some bad recommendations. I am, however, a consent fetishist.

My favorite other (than Jenny’s) BDSM book I’ve read this year is Lauren Gallagher’s “Light Switch.” I loved some of the commentary on the subtext of some of the BDSM scene. Heroine comments that he’s not dressed like a dom, and he replies that he wants her to submit to him, not the clothing. (Go, Scott!) Her site is loriawitt.com. I enjoyed “Out of Focus,” which is an M/M/M book (two doms and a sub) published under her L. A. Witt pen name.

Maya Banks’s “Sweet Addiction” goes over one character screwing up early on with a lover, then running across her again, but she’s with another dom now.

Others I enjoyed reading this year: Dark Blue by Natasha Bond, Jayne Rylon has some interesting stuff but can be kinda out there, e.g., “Dream Machine.” I can disrecommend Em Petrova and Cathryn Cade (for consent issues).

Also not big on the billionaire thing in general, but love how Jenny’s doing it.

If you are still following this blog, I would recommend Cerise Sinclair’s Shadowlands series. It follows members in a BDSM club in Florida with the first book heroine an innocent accountant seeking shelter from the rain after an accident. The 2nd book is the most teachy since the main female character is going for beginner’s night with her boyfriend but quickly reconsiders his suitability. Each subsequent book covers couples who are into heavier aspects of the scene (with the usual romance book relationship issues of abusive or possessive exes, misunderstandings, etc). There eventually develops a multi book arc covering human trafficking. I lost track around the 7th or 8th but she is good at making the relationships believable and presenting whatever the kink is in a way that makes those to whom it does not appeal still understand its attraction to others.

Bc spoilers aren’t nice and some of us had a term paper to write this weekend. Or maybe that’s just me, it is possible I’m the only person on the whole internet who hasn’t seen it yet.

    • Because I need to organize my feels. Also, most of it can be summed up by a tumblr post I made on Sunday (SPOILER): bit.ly/18kj8Ak But there will be a post, once I can stop weeping openly.

For a moment there, I was like ‘at school pick up time, Jen? Really?’ But then I remembered it was 8pm my time, so I sling my kid in bed early and get to do it with you. Wish he wasn’t a complete wuss, I think he’d enjoy it otherwise!

Aww… I just realized that I’m now caught up on all the 50 Shades of Fucked recaps. Darnit.

As to the deadlines, I was going to recommend drowning everything in tea and now I’m torn because I just remembered that Ana is an anglophile and I don’t know how I’m going to cope with this and my tea addiction.

You have no idea how thrilled I am to have a copy of The Boss to read while I’m back in the US for Christmas.

Shouldn’t be too bad, if my Google skillz are up to scratch, early evening your time is early afternoon here – 18 hours ahead (and also currently Daylight Saving Time).

Doesn’t work out so well for *our* evening, but there’s at least a window that could work? 😀

  7. Hiya, it’s Natasha Bond here (and like Jenny, I have several incarnations!) Thanks for mentioning my BDSM book Dark Blue which is indeed about two equal partners in a BDSM relationship – grown up 30 somethings exploring kink. One or two people complained that Carla and Alex, who are Oxford mature student and professor respectively, aren’t sticking to the Lifestyle Rules. Well, hey, this was my first BDSM book and I didn’t know there were any rules apart from both people being consenting adults and up for some fun and perhaps, love. Alex and Carla certainly know ther own minds, in fact that’s their whole raison d’etre.
