Other true story: Every once and a while our Amazon Echo will randomly wake up and start playing “Uptown Girl.”

@jenny_trout Maybe your Echo is just trying to put a little pep in your step? Either way, check here for tips: http://t.co/fZkwXoZHYF 🙂 ^KR

@AmazonHelp Oh, I don’t consider this a bug, I think it’s a feature. I’m not gonna fix it, LOL.

I always like it when customer service people make dealing with them a fun experience. Not that THEY are usually the problem, but mostly I’ve been trying to fix whatever’s wrong myself and failing miserably. Then, already frustrated, I turn to them for help and sometimes that’s a really complicated process as well and the longer it takes the more I just want to cry or yell at someone. And sometimes I end up with the thing I wanted to fix still not working.
So, this is delightful to read.
Plus, you seem a little more peppy. Must be Billy Joel.
Do you like your Echo, then? I got myself the invite to order, but then I didn’t think we’d use it so I never pulled the trigger.
Plugging the Echo here. My family loves it. My five year old is on the spectrum and it’s helping her work on her enunciation. The downside: The Wiggles and I don’t care if I never hear Pharell’s “Happy” ever again. I also use it for timers, the time, weather, and news. I don’t have any wi-fi enable wall switches, so that new feature is currently useless to me.
@Jenny. I love your website and I’m about to start your recap of the third FSoG book.
Awesome, thanks for the feedback. I may have to look into it again!
That’s so cute! I love Amazon. Netflix’s Twitter game seems pretty strong, too.
This makes me so happy. I can’t even articulate why, exactly.
Well that’s adorable.
Knowing of your love for both James May and peculiar fabric, when I read this I thought of you Jenny*

That was supposed to say fanfic not fabric. Cheers autocorrect
Eh… someone stole a novel I’d posted to a writing site when I was a teenager and posted it to Amazon along with like 7 other novels that she clearly couldn’t have written herself in the two or three month span they were published in. I contacted Amazon (like the other authors did) and showed them where my story was originally posted as well as the CreateSpace (partnered with Amazon) invoice for the proof copy I ordered 2 years before the thief stole it, but since I wasn’t threatening to sue them it took 7+ months to get my book taken down. I’d email them and they’d say “Yep it’s all in order it’ll be taken down ASAP”… but then it would still be there. It was a pain in the ass. I only tolerate them as a necessary evil.
It makes me feel even better about working there. They pay really well and so far seem to care about its employees which is a rarity. I am not usually one to sing a job’s praises because if I could never work again I would spend the rest of my life as a lady of leisure.
