Every year, I make a post where I highlight what I believe to be my very best posts from the year. But this year, I’m not sure I had that many truly “good” posts. Yet so many of you continue to visit and support this site. I’m blessed by your continued presence and participation, but I’ve obviously lost my drive and focus, not just here, but in my fiction writing, too. So, with that in mind, I’m going to try to enter 2018 with new drive.<\/p>\n
That said, here\u00a0is the Trout Nation year in review:<\/p>\n
January<\/strong><\/p>\n I re-released\u00a0Surrender<\/em><\/a><\/span>, a book of my heart that I poured massive research into only to see the publisher crash and burn a few short years later.<\/p>\n I ranked every song in\u00a0Galavant<\/em>,<\/a> <\/span>a stunning work of epic silliness that you should definitely watch if you haven’t already.<\/p>\n Chronic pain patients were thoroughly insulted by Veronica Roth’s\u00a0Carve The Mark<\/em><\/a><\/span>, a New York Times bestseller filled to the brim with racism and ableism.<\/p>\n February<\/strong><\/p>\n I offered some helpful tips to the jackass journalists<\/a><\/span> gleefully using\u00a0Fifty Shades Darker<\/em> as a vehicle for their desire to demean women.<\/p>\n And I offered some helpful terminology<\/a><\/span> to enhance your Mario Karting experience.<\/p>\n Have a writing question? Again.<\/a><\/span> This has got to stop happening. Luckily, you all had my back.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n I showed you how to make a waffle, via a weird video.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n May<\/strong><\/p>\n My mental health took a crash.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n And I absolutely had it with MAGA and their fake concern for the LGBTQA+ community.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n Why even are male writers?<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>And other tips for incorporating bear-death into your writing career.<\/p>\n June<\/strong><\/p>\n Wonder Woman<\/em> was, despite popular criticism,\u00a0really darn queer.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n Did you know that panhandlers make more than minimum wage workers do?<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n July<\/strong><\/p>\n Twitter continued to protect Nazis.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n My daughter’s reaction to Jodie Whittaker’s casting as the Thirteenth Doctor went viral.<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>I even got interviewed about\u00a0Doctor Who<\/em> on BBC Radio, so basically that was a dream come true.<\/p>\n My husband had a problem with my proposed career change<\/a><\/span>, and we made another waffle<\/a><\/span>!<\/p>\n August<\/strong><\/p>\n Neil and Sophie returned in\u00a0The Sister<\/a><\/span><\/em>. Sadly, it didn’t become a legitimate New York Times bestseller like\u00a0Handbook For Mortals<\/em><\/a><\/span> did.<\/p>\n September<\/strong><\/p>\n We finished our re-watch of\u00a0Buffy<\/em> season three<\/a><\/span> and started season four.<\/a><\/span> Which seemed like a perfect time to come clean about some weird shit I keep in my office.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n October<\/strong><\/p>\n I got the opportunity to review\u00a0Una<\/em><\/a><\/span>, one of my favorite films of 2017.<\/p>\n We dove into a parallel rewatch of\u00a0Angel<\/em>.<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>I’m pretty sure I messed up the title on that recap.<\/p>\n November<\/strong><\/p>\n I started an ongoing series about the worst person I’ve ever met.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n December<\/strong><\/p>\n Bronwyn Green Leslie Knope-d the absolute fuck out of Christmas<\/a><\/span>, but even her beautiful gift was nothing compared to the blessed visit from our favorite con artist, Zade Sarem.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n So,\u00a0here we go, into 2018 and a brave new world of however this plays out.
