State of The Trout: Shakespeare YA serendipity, Coffee People update, and general nonsense

such sweet sorrow

Never was there a tale of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo…

But true love never dies. Though they’re parted by the veil between the world of mortals and the land of the dead, Romeo believes he can restore Juliet to life, but he’ll have to travel to the underworld with a thoroughly infuriating guide.

Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, may not have inherited his father’s crown, but the murdered king left his son a much more important responsibility—a portal to the Afterjord, where the souls of the dead reside. When the determined Romeo asks for help traversing the treacherous Afterjord, Hamlet sees an opportunity for adventure and the chance to avenge his father’s death.

In an underworld filled with leviathan monsters, ghoulish shades, fire giants, and fierce Valkyrie warriors, Hamlet and Romeo must battle their way through jealousy, despair, and their darkest fears to rescue the fair damsel. Yet finding Juliet is only the beginning, and the Afterjord doesn’t surrender souls without a price…

Here’s the most coolest thing ever: Rachel Caine also has a Shakespeare-inspired YA coming out on the very same day!

prince of shadowsA thrilling retelling of the star-crossed tale of Romeo and Juliet, from the New York Times bestselling author of the Morganville Vampires series.

In the Houses of Montague and Capulet, there is only one goal: power. The boys are born to fight and die for honor and—if they survive—marry for influence and money, not love. The girls are assets, to be spent wisely. Their wishes are of no import. Their fates are written on the day they are born.

Benvolio Montague, cousin to Romeo, knows all this. He expects to die for his cousin, for his house, but a spark of rebellion still lives inside him. At night, he is the Prince of Shadows, the greatest thief in Verona—and he risks all as he steals from House Capulet. In doing so, he sets eyes on convent-bound Rosaline, and a terrible curse begins that will claim the lives of many in Verona…

…And will rewrite all their fates, forever.

So, what I’m saying is, all of you who were saying, “Oh my gosh, I love Shakespeare retellings!”… it’s your lucky Tuesday tomorrow.

In other news, look what arrived on my lucky, lucky doorstep:

You are not dreaming. It is the romance novel based on the popular Nescafe Gold Blend commercials of the 80’s and 90’s. I’m not kidding. This thing actually exists. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, familiarize yourself with my epic coffee people post.

Several people asked if I was going to recap this book, as I did 50 Shades. That would be awesome, however, as you are about to learn, I am super effing busy right now. Not only do I have the Buffy recap thing going on, there’s also Merlin Club (join us for s01e03 tonight at 8pm EST on the Twitter hashtag #MerlinClub) and I’m still not done recapping those fucking horrible abuse books. So, I don’t want to pick up yet another recap commitment. Instead, I’ll be posting random lines and observations while reading at youservebettercoffee.tumblr.com. I’ll try to make a few updates every few days.

Now, as to busy: don’t expect too much on the blog for the next couple of weeks. I’ll be in Conroe, TX, opening the Montgomery County Book Festival (deets on the “Appearances” page linked above) and I have to write a speech for that, on top of finishing The Bride, revising as per the edits that are already rolling in from my amazing editor (who, by the by, is available for hire from Electra Editorial Service), and rolling on some other stuff that needs to get done. Bear with me, I promise I will return. In the meantime, I’ll be posting links to interviews and guests posts from my blog tour for Such Sweet Sorrow.

Everybody have an awesome February!

PS. A note about the spambots:  I realize how annoying they are, but they’re so goddamn funny, I can’t bring myself to crack down on them yet. Be patient with me, for I am easily amused and quickly distracted.
