The “I Am Utterly Alone” Twitter Beetlejuice Watch-Together

Posted in Uncategorized

If you don’t want to go to a Halloween party this year because it just seems like too much damn work, or you don’t like people, or you just haven’t been invited to a Halloween party, this is the event for you. Join your fellow citizens of Troutnation on twitter to watch the Tim Burton classic, Beetlejuice.

Start your copy of the movie at 9:00PM EST (sorry, I know you all come from different time zones, but mama’s gotta sleep) on October 25th, and tweet about it using the hashtag #UtterlyAlone (thanks to @ShariSlade for the suggestion!). This will be a great chance to meet some new twitter friends and also, um, watch Beetlejuice, because OBVIOUSLY. It’s only the greatest movie of all time.

I’ll probably be in class, so no watching for me, but I’m glad someone else agrees that Beetlejuice is the best movie ever. related: Halloween needs to be a national holiday.

  3. I’ve just read through all the recaps, which have made recovery from major dental surgery way more fun than it had any right to be. I’m now a major fan, and if I ever needed any more proof that I’ll be reading this blog forever, this is it. I’m so. in.

This is so a case of “great minds”. I’m showing movies in the breakroom at work on Halloween and “Beetlejuice” is one of them. I’ve been so stoked all week about this, I’ll be ready to squirt by Halloween! May have to borrow the copy I requisitioned. Sssssh. Don’t tell. I could get counselled for that!

  5. As it happens, I have a kickass Halloween party to go to. I’m in Cambridge, MA, so I get to see Cirque of the Dead: http://americanrepertorytheater.org/events/show/cirque-dead WHOO ZOMBIE BOOBIES. If you’re in the neighborhood, c’mon down. The cocktails are strong, the people are weird, and the last time I was there, one of the SIrlesque guys decided to lick my drink.

But that’s actually on Halloween, leaving my Friday night free to watch movies with y’all. Most of my Halloween costumes involve being half-naked anyway, so in honor of that long-standing tradition, I’ll be watching (and probably tweeting!) in my underpants.

No cam, though. Fuck if I’m gonna put on makeup for this. Or brush my hair.

I also love Nightmare Before Christmas, my son memorized the whole movie when he was 5.

I will be looking forward to reading about it.

  9. I watched it earlier this year. Winona was so young and adorable but my favourite character is Juno with the hole in her neck. Smoking hot:-D

  10. That’s 3am for me (and I also don’t have Beetlejuice on DVD, so there’s that) so I’m going to have to pass this up. Looking forward to reading the tweets, though!

  11. I actually got to use the calendar thingy on my phone that notifies you of upcoming events. That was sort of exciting in and of itself. I don’t get out much. :o) Yay for Beetlejuice!

Fancy seeing you here! I watch you on youtube. 🙂

I can’t wait to watch Beetlejuice. I have nothing to do this Halloween so it should be fun.

  12. I’m kind of a total wimp when it comes to movies – can you guys give me a creepiness rating for Beetlejuice? I usually go by my husband’s opinion but he hasn’t seen it either. For comparison, Buffy tends to be right around the too-creepy threshold for me.

I’ll join in if I’ll be able to sleep afterwards 🙂

    • Beetlejuice is very macabre comedy with a few mild jump moments or gross-out sight gags. But it’s mostly just dark humor about death and the afterlife. If you’ve watched Batman Returns or The Corpse Bride, it’s about that level of creepy.

      • thanks! I should be fine with that 🙂 Now to convince my husband that I’m not totally insane…
