When I asked for suggestions for which movie to watch for a “Let’s Get High Movie Night”, over 50% of responses were for Labyrinth. This is one of my all-time favorite movies, but for some people the implied sexuality between David Bowie and a very young Jennifer Connelly is unnerving or uncomfortable. Since teen sexuality is so often discussed with regards to this movie, I talk about that at length. That’s why I’m going to label this with a CW for things relating to teen sexuality that might make CSA survivors uncomfortable.
LET’S GET HIGH AND WATCH LABYRINTH
As always, cannabis consumption is optional, and you should definitely follow your local laws. Download the mp3 here and start when the movie starts and the first title card comes up (it says Henson Associates, Inc and Lucas Film LTD present).

oh daaaamn I’m down for this one!
Oh. My. God.
Labyrinth is my all-time favorite movie too! Not “one of my all-time favorites”; it is my favoritest favorite movie EVER! I have loved it ever since it first came out when I was only five years old.
A couple of months ago, my city had a thirtieth anniversary screening. There were awesome cosplayers (especially all the Jareths) and trivia with prizes (I won tickets to the local drive-in along with a voucher for free popcorn). It was great. ^_^
First time watching this movie. I kind of wish I’d encountered it as a kid, because I think I’d have accepted its strangeness a lot easier. Your commentary helped make sense of it for me, lol. I do love the point that it’s a girl’s story, and it’s an empowering one. I’m glad to have watched it once, but it won’t be a repeat for me. (But I’m also *very* picky about movies, so that’s not saying much. 🙂 ) Thanks for a bizarre couple hours! 😀
Love this movie! I have a Tarot Deck designed by Brian Froud and the cards look like th goblins. Love the design and the music.
Honestly, this is the 1st time I’ve seen the whole movie. I always somehow missed everything from the ballroom scene until the end where they’re all dancing in Sarah’s room.
I love Labyrinth. Seriously, it’s a bit cracky and weird, but honestly, it was Bowie at his best. May he R.I.P.
I hadn’t seen that one before. I liked it! It was simply a great fantasy film about a brave girl’s adventure. Can’t have enough of those! Really enjoyed watching along with your commentary. Thank you!
