State Of The Trout: Pure Imagination Edition

Posted in Uncategorized

Hey there! Quick note to remind you guys that I’m buried under a mound of props and chocolate this week. Wanna catch a great show? Come out to Center Stage Theater in Comstock, MI, this weekend and next for Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory, featuring beloved music from the classic film as well as new selections written by the original composers. Tickets and more information are available at that link.

I’ve got a couple of busy weeks coming up, but I will try to have something here on the blog next week, at least. Definitely, I’ll have more information on an upcoming signing in Savannah, GA. Until then, pray for my fingers, as they have been burned with hot glue so many times this week.

I saw a production of Charlie and the chocolate factory at Calvin college in Grand Rapids last winter. It was performed by children who looked to be about ages 7-13, and it was pretty great. The Willy Wonka character was played by a boy who seemed to be channeling Johnny depp’s special brand of weirdness, and he was great to watch. Charlie was played by a kid with an amazing singing voice. My favorite scene was the “there’s no knowing where we’re going” boat song, which was haunting, and spooky, and melodic, and stuck in our heads for days afterwards. We also saw some very talented oompa-loompas who did gymnastics every time they came out to take away a child and sing their oompa-loompa song.

Is your production adults or children or a mixture? I’m not on Twitter, so apologies if you’ve already talked about it there. Is your daughter taking part this time? I think I remember the two of you doing Annie together?

Passion goes a long way! That kid’s production sounds great and I bet the one Jenny is working on will be as well. XD

There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination

Oh dear. I was *so* hot for Gene Wilder when I saw him sing that…I was 11. 40+ years later, I still think I had great taste.

    Have big sweet fun, Jen!

I got a mad crush on Yul Brynner in The Ten Commandments when I was 10. And he was supposed to be the bad guy!
