Roadhouse episode 21: “Following The Following”

I feel the same way about Emma, I noticed it so much with this weeks episode that she acts like shes the queen bee and Joe Carroll's fav. The way she walked up to him she totally loves him and would do anything for him. I think she manipulates people with sex, but remember that she has a whole bunch of baggage, like when they found her house with all those crazy drawings on the wall. I think she is really a sick-o. The only person she really seems like she is nice to is the kid, but that's only to please Joe.
I didn't want to watch this show cause I thought it would get cancelled right away, like oh so many fox shows(Arrested Development,Futurama,Wonderfalls, Keen Eddie), Rubicon on AMC a while back that was sooo good, anyway I gave it a try and loved it. Told my mom and brother to watch it and they did and now they love it too. My mom doesn't even mind the threesome or the blood.
I find I can't wait until each week to see what they will do next. I wonder how far they will go with it because you know that Hardy is going to get a cosmic screwing.
The scariest thing about this is you don't know who might be helping Joe, wow that could really mess with your mind. I wonder if the head FBI women(forget her name) might even be one of them.
You know they will have some twisty thing where it is someone you least expect.

Based on the replies it doesn't look like anyone is watching this show, I don't know what the ratings are for it, but start watching it everyone so I am not disappointed by it being cancelled.

I became convinced that Claire is a follower as well. I wish I could remember what about her conversation with Joe in prison made me think it in the first place. I'll have to go back and watch the scene.

While you are both probably right on some of what you have said, I think that is true of most shows like this, but I still enjoy it because there is a puzzle to be put together and I like watching it play out. I am not ever a fan of comedies (exceptions Arrested Development, Louis) because they always have laugh lines and have to spell eveything out to everyone all the time, so I enjoy this kind of thing because I lose myself in it. For me things have to be a bit off the beaten path for me to like it BECAUSE it is so not real that I am not compairing it to the real FBI. Like Fringe was enjoyable for me because it had that science fiction element that had nothing to compare it to so it could be true or believable

I also liked House which was so impossible but different than most soap opera medical shows that everyone likes, Saint Elsewhere was an exception to that. My son and I used to watch House and high five each other every time someone pucked up blood. We did it alot towards the end of the series.
I suppose it's what you are into or not. Gore doesn't freak me out.

I'm 95% sure that little blond FBI boy who is always with Ryan is part of Joe's group. I was pretty convinced after Clair's watcher explained to her who he was and what his task has been. I mean, if Clair and that one that got away chick both had watchers of course he's not going to just leave someone as important as Ryan unsupervised. And, that guy is stuck to Ryan like glue. It's gotta be him. Remember how he tagged along with Ryan to try to save his sister, yet conveniently did nothing to help the situation? Ditto when the black FBI agent was killed by the surprise cult wife.

I think there's been plenty of times that we've seen that Emma's smugness and know-it-all-ness is a front that she puts on to seem/be strong…and I think that's smart because, HEY, you're running or trying to run a group of SERIAL KILLERS. Or wanna be serial killers. Weakness is kind of the thing that will get you killed. If I was in her place, I'd probably come off as if I were all-seeing, all-knowing too, because I am not going to show weakness in a pack of wolves.

And I think Emma is both kind of feeling her own power for the first time in her life (because we've seen what her relationship with her mother was like) and trying to FIND her power and to feel special and powerful and all these things that she's never been able to be or find or have.

She wants to be Joe Carroll's best girl (be it Girl Friday or handmaiden or whatever) because that's the NATURE OF A CULT. Everyone wants to be close to Daddy or God or whatever patriarchal nomenclature they're going with. And she's a woman trying to make it, quite literally, in a male dominated field. A field which could actually and truly get her killed. So I don't think her presentation is unreasonable or not in following with the character. I mean…you fall in with a cult BECAUSE you're vulnerable to that kind of manipulation. Because you have that hole that needs to be filled and this charismatic leader is promising and seeming to fill it. And from that sense of fulfillment, comes that born-again smugness; that you have access to this secret that is just between the members of this small, chosen group, that you have your fingers on the pulse of things in a world full of dumb sheep, that you are better or superior because you have access to and attention from this great personage.

I think you get that same smugness from any rabidly evangelical group, whether it's a cult, or a more recognized religious sect, or a political party *koff*GOP*koff* or even certain cadres of philosophical thought, like atheists.

The thing is though, this puzzle is rigged. Anytime the writers find themselves in a bind, they will come up with someone convenient to be one of the thousand followers and voila, the bad guy gets to escape again.

For example the lady cop came out of nowhere and helped Emma escape with Joey.

I enjoy a puzzle too and if the FBI actually were competent and Joe was actually portrayed as something special, instead of being told over and over, then this show would have been something special. I mean look at the way Joe escaped from prison. How did he manage to escape from a moving prison car? The show couldn't show that because the writers are just not that creative.

And yes, I agree with Renee about the gore. It's there as if just to shock viewers. Look, how edgy we are! The thing is that I could accept the gore if the story telling was compelling and not riddled with plot-holes and the characters were consistent and competent. But hey, if other people enjoy it, which they seem to be, good for them.

I, personally will just wait for Hannibal on NBC for my serial-killers fix.

Hmm Hannibal on NBC looks promising, but I would much rather see this Hannibal have a show on NBC
