Hey there, everybody! As you know (or might not, because I’m bad at doing my own promotion), I have two new books coming out on August 4th! They’re both called First Time, and they’re both the same story, one written from the hero’s POV, one from the heroine’s POV. If you interested, you can read more about them here, and preorder them if you want.
However, since these are self-published, I am up to my sight orbs in work. I’m formatting them for print and e-book, making print covers, ordering proofs, the week is a nightmare. So, while I’m trying to keep everything on track, things might get a little behind. Them’s the breaks.
HOWEVER!
Someone recently asked about a “schedule” for Grey recaps. What I’m doing right now is trying to rotate all my recaps on a regular cycle. A Grey recap, then an Apolonia recap, then a Buffy recap, etc. The next Buffy recap may well be this week, as I’m almost finished with it. But again, I’m working like a trained circus bear on a matinee day trying to get all of this done.
I did have to stop and acknowledge, though, some of the cool stuff people have been sending me lately:
If you sent me something recently and I didn’t acknowledge it, I’m trash and I’m sorry. Let me know and I’ll make a video about that, too, because I don’t want anyone’s gifts to be unappreciated. Also, thank you all for the birthday cards!
So thank you for your patience, thanks to everyone who has pre-ordered First Time, and thanks for generally just being rad.
Oh, man, hang in there. I know what you’re going through. My wife has self published 5 of the 6 issues of her Steampunk comic, an anthology of short stories, and is getting the Kickstarter-for-independent-creators how-to book ready for publication this week. All this on top of going to Comic Cons (San Diego last week, Boston next week) to sell same-said comic and anthology while producing the 6th issue and get it ready for its Kickstarter campaign in October. It’s a grind.
Best of luck to you! The hardest thing is keeping your wits about you.
I read that as “a trained circus bear on a manatee”, which made it sound wonderful.
I did the same thing, except I was going Wth??
I did too. It’s 3am here and I’m tired, so I read it over and over trying to figure out what was going on and what trained circus bears have to do with manatees. I swear it probably took me a couple minutes to figure it out, lol.
More Buffy! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! I’m re-reading the FSoG Freed and the old Buffys because you are just so damned funny!
Really, paper is the problem. I hate various aspects of self-publishing, too, but since I keep to ebook only, I can just plop everything in the templates, upload a jpeg for the cover, and call it good in like half an hour.
As a reader, though, I *hate* the ebook format (ereaders give me migraines; I’ve tried several), so I wouldn’t necessarily want everyone to take my strategy. 😛
Good luck!
Mad respect for the self publishing struggle. Also, while watching the video, my one year old who is also named Connor kept running back to me to see who was talking to him. So I guess you have another fan in the Connor section.
Hey there, I just wanted to comment and say how much I’ve been enjoying your blog. Awhile ago I was trying to see if Cleolinda Jones had done a 50 Shades in 15 Minutes but I found you instead! I pretty much read straight through your blog from the chapter one recap and that brings us to this comment! I love your style and your humor. I’ve read Choosing You and The Afflicted and I can’t wait to see what else you come up with next.
I would love to see your Doctor Who self… who are we kidding- let’s call it was it is: a SHRINE! I am working on one as well but it pales in comparison to my Harry Potter shrine.
Yes, the publishing part of self-publishing is a BIG pain in the butt, but it’s worth it in the end, right? At least, I’m hoping it will be.
In other words, never stop being awesome!
(Sorry, I’m not a Dr. Who fan. I tried watching a few episodes, but I was too confused to enjoy it.)
What lives in the awesome cage behind you?
Two rats, Lucy and Harry Potter. They don’t live there so much as sleep constantly.
Are they both the same gender but one has a non-traditional name or are they fixed?
I’m just curious. I adore rats and I hope to get my health issues under control enough to get another pair (or more) of ratties soon-ish.
If they’re male and female and one is fixed, can ask how they get on together? I’ve thought about getting a male and 1 or 2 females now that my dead-end town has a vet that will neuter pet rats. I’ve never really heard from a real person how well that situation works out, was curious and figured I’d ask.
Also, have already done a video with your ratties and I just missed it somewhere? I had to have, right? Because there’s no way you’d deny letting us see your cute little squeaks.
I think a “Meet Jenny’s Pets” video is called for. 😉
I second this. I’d love to see Lucy and Harry Potter!
They’re both male. I just don’t think they care what kind of names they get. 😀
I pre-ordered both versions of First Time a while ago and just now checked Amazon to see if it’s finally almost time yet and it IS almost time and I am EXCITED. Did you schedule the release for my day off on purpose? Also, do they come out at midnight? It would be so wicked to get home from work and have fresh Trout.
Also…I missed where you identified Ian’s inspiration as Craig Ferguson and had been imagining him as Peter Capaldi. Eh, who am I kidding? Malcolm Tucker.
Yeah, I hear Capaldi a lot. I think it’s because of the nonstop cursing, LOL!
I would so love to come see you at Authors After Dark, especially since I live just outside Atlanta. Maybe another year as I’m currently in the middle of treatment for stage III ovarian cancer. Fuck Cancer!
Anyway, I’m a huge fan. Your blog and books are one of the things that keep me going especially on the days when I’m super sick from the chemo. Did I mention, Fuck Cancer?
